LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – As many as four Clinton County baseball and softball teams are looking to qualify for the postseason when district playoffs begin later this month.
Most recent rankings, through May 6, show that the Bucktail softball team and Central Mountain baseball and softball teams are locks for playoff berths when the postseason begins. Bucktail in Class 1A in District 4 softball, after a recent loss to Montgomery, has fallen to second behind the Raiders but is guaranteed to qualify for the playoffs. and Central Mountain in District 6 Class 5A in baseball and softball respectively remain top-seeded.
The prospective newcomer is the Sugar Valley Phoenix baseball team. The Phoenix, ranked number five among eight teams in the District 4 A baseball standings, is hoping to make the postseason for the first time in the school’s just over quarter-century history.
To make the playoffs, per District 4 rules, the team will have to finish at no worse than a .500 record. Sugar Valley presently has a 6-8 record, but a strong finish would make the Phoenix playoff-bound.
Both Central Mountain ball teams are defending district champions. Bucktail softball was a district runner-up a year ago,
