FARWELL, Pa. – The participation level is the highest it’s been in a while for Bucktail football and things are reported going well as the Bucks prepare for their 2026 season opener at Cameron County Friday night.
Bruce Ransom is back as head coach of the Bucks, last serving in that capacity in 2018. He told Clinton County Sports he likes what he sees so far from this season’s squad: “Thus far things have been going well, 26 total kids on our roster which is very nice…several new faces out this season including a few off of junior high…overall we are still a young team with lots of underclassman starting.”
He listed the larger player turnout this year as a team strength and said a concern, as always, is the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The veteran coach said the expectations are “to simply improve week to week on the field, in the classroom and as people in our community.”
The Bucks are set to open their season at Cameron County on Friday, a 7 p.m. kickoff. Coach Ransom noted that Cameron County is part of a schedule full of schools with larger enrollments than Bucktail. He said Cameron County has a long-standing tradition of good football, in the District 9 playoffs in four of the last five years. The Raiders downed Bucktail twice last year; they are scheduled to meet one time this season.
Week two will see Bucktail’s home opener on Friday, Sept. 4 with Otto-Eldred.
