ALTOONA, Pa. – Central Mountain’s sophomore tennis duo, twins Lucy and Lane Walker, fell in the District 6 AA doubles final on Wednesday. Westmont-Hilltop’s Lilly Evans and Isabella Parrish downed the Lady Wildcats in straight sets, 6-3. 6-3. Despite the loss, CM coach Tom Zettle said the Walkers “put up a good fight.” They won three matches on Monday to advance to the district title match.
It was an extended day for both. They played in the district final at noon and came back several hours later for a regularly scheduled match with host Altoona. The Lady Mountain Lions came out on top by a 4-1 score, the Lady Wildcats without their #1, Addison Lindsay not available.
Lucy Walker did pick up a win at #1 singles over Altoona’s Skylar Irwin by a 6-2, 7-5 score but that would prove to be CM’s lone team point.
Coach Zettle said he thought the heavy early week schedule “is catching up with the ladies.” He expressed hope the team “will pick it up a notch” Thursday when Bucktail comes to the Gibson Tennis Complex for a 4 p.m. match.
