Wildcat varsity wrestling teams stage Senior Night sweep

Boys down ‘Shore, 64-6; girls prevail, 44-4

By John Lipez

MILL HALL, Pa.  – Thursday night’s Senior Night for Central Mountain wrestling could not have gone much better. The gym was filled, seniors and parents for the boys and girls teams were recognized between the two duals, and the wrestlers from freshmen to seniors did their part on the mat. The Lady Wildcats dominated downriver rival Jersey Shore by a 44-4 score and the boys piled up one of the most one-sided wins in their series with the Bulldogs, picking up seven falls on the way to a 64-6 demolition.

After the conclusion of the girls’ match and prior to the boys, the CM wrestling program recognized their numerous seniors. Lady Wildcat seniors recognized were Julia Hartman, Sarah Lavallee, Kennedy Metzger, Asylyn Miller, Emma Scarborough-Perez, Kendall Wagner and Wrestling Manager Reese Walizer. The Wildcat seniors for the boys included Josiah Allert, Collin Bauman, Jaden Curtis, Hunter Donley, Dalton McDermott, Hayes Miller, Jaggar Pardoe and Mario Serafini.

Wildcat boys’ team coach Biff Walizer acknowledged it was a great night for both programs: “I thought the girls had a really exciting match,..they went out and fought really hard. So that was nice to see that the work they’re doing in the room, they were able to go out and get some wins.”

As for the boys’ match, “Our team went, everybody went out and fought hard as they have all season, able to cap a regular season…dual meets undefeated with 11 and 0 (record). That’s just a piece of the puzzle. We gotta’ keep putting the pieces together in that puzzle till it’s complete.”

Girls’ coach Dylan Caprio expressed similar sentiments after his squad won its third dual in a row to move to 5-4 on the season. He noted the 44-4 win was gratifying and came after the Lady Wildcats lost on criteria during Senior Night at Jersey Shore a year ago.

Caprio got wins from all five seniors in his line-up: a first-period fall from Emma Scarborough-Perez at 112 pounds; a 9-7 win from Kennedy Metzger at 130; a come-from-behind pin from Julia Hartman at 136; a second-period fall from Kendall Wagner at 170 and a forfeit for Ashlyn Miller at 190.

Other Lady Wildcat winners were Sadie Caris with a technical fall at 118; a forfeit for Alana Rhodes at 142 and a fall from Austynn Falls at 148, her sixteenth pin in a 17-2 season.

The boys’ contest turned out to be a blow-out over the now 6-13 Bulldogs. Pins came from Hunter Nace (107 pounds), Patrick Tarantella (133), Hayes Donley (139), Luke Garman (145), Mario Serafini (172), Todd Caris (215) and Hayes Henry (285).

Recording technical falls were Aiden Kunes (152), his 99th career win, and Hunter Donley (189). Forfeits went to Angelo Tarantella (114) and Gavin Heverly (127). ‘Shore winners were Gabriel Fisher at 121 pounds and Tobias Morgret at 160. Morgret’s win came over CM’s Dalton McDermott, achieved on a second-period escape and a third-period ride-out for a 1-0 win. The two wrestlers had split two earlier season meetings.

The Central Mountain boys will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the 47-team Ultimate Warrior tournament at West Branch High School. Meanwhile the Lady Wildcats will be at a Bald Eagle Area tournament in Wingate Saturday, featuring junior high, JV and varsity squads.
