CMMS Track Battles with Williamsport, Girls Shine
The Central Mountain Middle School track teams battled Williamsport Area Middle School on Monday, April 29th. The girls’ team fell short 54-69, while the boys faced a strong Williamsport squad, losing 19-104.
Despite the team loss, the Central Mountain girls showed off their talent in several events. Macia Owens secured a second-place finish in both the 100-meter dash (13.61 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles (17.23 seconds). Autumn Sneath continued the strong showing with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (18.97 seconds) and a victory in the long jump (14 feet, 2 inches).
Central Mountain’s distance runners impressed as well. Abigail Winslow dominated the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:06.89 seconds. Coralene Svec displayed her endurance with second-place finishes in both the 800-meter run (2:51.60) and the 1600-meter run (6:25.25).
The girls’ 4×100 meter relay team, consisting of Alyssa Ford, Macia Owens, Autumn Sneath, and Sophia Kelley, secured a second-place finish with a time of 56.12 seconds. Sophia Kelley added another win for Central Mountain in the high jump, clearing a height of 4 feet, 6 inches.
While the boys’ team score reflected a loss, there were bright spots. Mason Conner secured a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (27.93 seconds), Johnathan Nyman placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (49.37 seconds), and James Fausey jumped his way to a second-place finish in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches). Dakkoda Packer-Edwards provided a highlight for the boys with a first-place throw in the discus (125 feet, 11.5 inches).
Central Mountain’s track teams showcased individual strengths throughout the meet. With continued effort and focus, both the girls’ and boys’ teams look to build on their performances in future competitions.
